Wearable computing devices like fitness tracking bracelets are often unfashionable. We make fitness tracker covers for the Fitbit Flex and JawboneUP and UP24. Design.UX makes fitness bracelets fashionable. Manufactured in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by women, for women.

Travelling with a Fitbit

Jim Letourneau

It turns out that some airports are bigger than others but it is pretty easy to get 1500 Fitbit steps in just walking from the parking lot, through ticketing, customs, security (do Fitbits set off the metal detector?) and onward to your departure gate in a smaller airport. The same after landing. In bigger airports there can be much more walking and the step count can get over 5000. Stay away from the people movers wherever possible and travel safe!

If you want to get 10,000 steps in on a travel day you're going to have to plan an extra walk in your day either before or after your flight!

Fitbit on a Vacation

Jim Letourneau

Julia and I have been travelling for many weeks now and I'm impressed with how she religiously checks her Fitbit Charge HR. At the top of every flight of stairs or at a rest stop on a steep incline, she'll be checking her heart rate and step/stair count. I tend to wait until the end of the day to check my steps. I guess everyone is going to have a different approach to tracking their activity.

We've been in airports for two days in a row and there can be more steps than expected. More on that soon!

Fitbit Sales vs Apple Watch

Jim Letourneau

The launch of the Apple Watch didn't hurt Fitbit sales one bit according to new data released by Slice Intelligence. As an e-tailer of Fitbit accessories, we are always watching the trends. After the initial hype, it is somewhat surprising to see that Fitbit sales actually INCREASED after the Apple Watch launch date.

Wearables are Worth Watching

Jim Letourneau

We've been combing through Fitbit's recent IPO filings. They share some interesting data on the state of the health and fitness market as a whole as well as the rapidly increasing demand for wearables. It's a fast growing market as evidenced by this quote from their S-1.

Based on information from industry sources, we estimate consumers spent over $200 billion in 2014 on health and fitness services, such as gym and health club memberships, commercial weight management services, and consumer health products, such as weight management products and dietary supplements. In addition, IBISWorld estimates that the corporate wellness industry will grow from $7.4 billion in 2014 to $10.4 billion in 2018 in the United States.
