A Fashion Fix for Fitness Gadgets

Jim Letourneau

The quantified self movement is being well served by the wave of new wearable computing devices. At best these devices will start conversations and collect data about their owners. At their worst, they are uncomfortable to wear and kinda funny looking. Recently two Canadian women, Pat Daunais and Julia Turnbull,  were sharing their Jawbone Up stories. One found that her Jawbone was chaffing her while she slept. The other wanted to dress up her Jawbone when she went out for the evening and to coordinate it with her daytime wear.

They were not alone, New York designer Charlotte Ronson was recently quoted in the New York Post commented on how functional her Jawbone UP was but that she’d like to see them come in “different prints.” Dan Cobain of TechMania 411 wrote in his post Why I Won’t Wear Wearables (Yet) that “the tech giants will need more involvement from bona fide fashion designers and celebrity trendsetters.”

Their mutual dissatisfaction motivated Pat and Julia to start experimenting with different different materials develop a brand new product called a Dress.Up. Dress.Ups cover fitness bands with fashionable print fabrics that turn something worn in the gym to something that can be worn to the opera. The product is currently in the middle of a funding campaign on Kickstarter.

People wearing dress ups look better, feel better and sleep better. Find out more about this exclusive new product at www.dressupfitbracelets.com.
